Nephrolepis biserrata - Macho Fern

This is my macho fern. This fern has become my favorite annual fern. Macho Ferns get HUGE, they have lush green foliage and they really don't shed their fronds the way Boston ferns do. Give this plant a big spot because it will need the room. It grows as a perennial in zones 9-10 and tolerates a little more sun than most ferns.
There are 20,000 species of plants in the fern family. Fossils of ferns date back to the early Carboniferous period (about 359.2 Million Years ago) which was part of the Paleozoic era.
