Passiflora incarnata - Passion Flower/Maypop

The Passion Flower is a native vine to this area. It was named for the Passion of Christ because the structure of the flower seemed symbolic with the suffering Jesus endured during the crucifixion.
The fruit of the vine is the larval food for many butterflies.
I found this vine growing on the side of a road in full sun and was covered in lavendar blooms.
