Zinnia elegans - Common Zinnia

My mom planted these zinnias by seed in daddy's vegetable garden. These annuals are great cut flowers and are often planted to attract butterflies. These flowers are native to Mexico and they come in a multitude of colors. Zinnias are extra special to me because my late grandmother (Mama Jo) planted them yearly and often brought over fresh vases of flowers for us to enjoy. This is a flower I always associate with her. The name of the genus derived from the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn.
