This native tree can grow over 30 feet tall. The foliage starts out green but by fall can show colors of red, yellow, orange or dark purple. An outstanding tree for fall color. The foliage also has 3 different shapes on the tree so that makes it easy to identify.
Many people (including my dad) have enjoyed sassafras tea -- by boiling the bark of the roots.
This tree is difficult to transplant from the wild because of a taproot so try to find in a container.
