The sugar maple is a really great slow growing shade tree. With bright yellow to orange fall color it is very pleasing this time of year. Sugar maples typically do better further north where it doesn't get as hot but there are several new varieties that are tolerating our climate very well. This native tree has sweet sap and when boiled down is used to make syrup. Sugar maple charcoal is also used to mellow Jack Daniels Whiskey.
