Ostrya virginiana - American Hop Hornbeam

This small, native tree is an excellent choice for parks, yards, & streets. It grows in a pyramidal shape with drooping branches & dark green foliage. The catkins are the flowers that you see hanging in the photo from the branches. Catkins are a very graceful addition to a tree & they certainly add interest until the leaves emerge.
This is a slow growing tree that reaches 25-40' tall and seems resistant to most disease.
