This native tree is a true symbol of the south. Large groves are planted throughout the southeast where it has been an major horticultural crop. This majestic tree can grow 70-100 feet tall and is the largest of all the hickories.
Trees have a deep taproot which often makes it impossible to transplant and it's often sold in deep pots at the garden center for this reason.
The fruit, in its shell, is contained inside this green pod and will mature later this fall.
