Okra is a flowering annual/vegetable in the Mallow Family. The name okra is of African origin and it means "lady's fingers." Okra is native to present day Ethiopia & is one of the most heat & drought tolerant vegetables you can grow. In these parts okra is best eaten when battered and fried but I also love it boiled or cut up in gumbo.
