Periwinkle is a popular and easy to grow annual that loves the sun. This flowering plant is from the island of Madagascar and has been widely cultivated to offer many different color options. Botanically it was once included in it's related genus Vinca. The genus Catharanthus is Greek for "pure flower". The pharmaceutical industry has had great interest in this plant to treat leukaemia, diabetes, and to lower blood pressure but it does have side effects. This plant is easy to grow and tends to reseed and come back the next year.
