Enonymus americanus – Strawberry bush or Hearts-a-burstin

This American native is a sprawling deciduous shrub reaching 4-6 feet in habit. The stems are green and it has small white flowers in the spring. This time of year the red fruit splits open and reveals 4 or 5 bright red or orange seeds. This plant grows best in the shade and can naturalize easily. White tailed deer are attracted to the foliage.
