Parthenocissus quinquefolia - Virginia Creeper

This native, decidious vine is determined to be in my landscape. I've finally agreed to get along with it and let it grow...for now. Virginia creeper secretes calcium carbonate at the tips which serves as an adhesive making it easy for it to attach to anything. It grows fast and the real show comes in the fall when the foliage turns purple-red. It is spread mostly by birds who eat the fruit.
This vine is often confused with poison ivy - just remember Virginia Creeper has 5 leaves in a group and Poison Ivy has 3 leaves in a group and you'll be fine.
