The cotton plant is a shrubby plant that had 3 lobed leaves with seeds in capsules. The seeds are surrounded by the downy fibers we know as cotton. The plant grows best in full sun and can be planted in furrows in the spring and harvested in the fall.
The cottonseed can also be turned into oil and consumed like vegetable oil.
Historians have found that cotton was used by the Harappan people in India as far back as 2500 BC.
