This Live Oak tree was named the "Angel Oak" in Charleston, NC. It is estimated to be over 1400 years old and I'm told it is the oldest tree this side of the Mississippi river.
Live Oaks in general are southern coastal trees that need a lot of space due to their horizontal habit. Foliage is evergreen and tolerant of salt spray. I am fond of the arching branches and even more so when draped with spanish moss.
The Live Oak is the state tree of Georgia. It is native from Florida to Virginia and over into Texas & Oklahoma. Grows best in zones 8-10 but is sometimes found in zone 7.
