Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana/Flamboyant Tree

The Royal Poinciana is a tropical tree native to Madagascar. It was in full bloom in Malawi last week and very eye catching with the bright red/orange blooms. The foliage is soft and also similar to mimosa foliage. The tree was heavily planted in landscaped areas along with the jacaranda tree & bougainvillea.
This tree is an excellent shade tree and can tolerate drought & salt spray. Even the ground beneath the tree is inviting as the petals begin to fall. Unfortunately it cannot live here in Atlanta.
