This native shrub was found near the Cahaba River in Bibb County, Alabama in 1877.
The semi-evergreen foliage is a medium green with a silver backing & turning orange in the fall. The foliage has a banana-apple fragrance when bruised.
Grows best in shady areas in moist, well drained soil.
I have never found this plant in garden centers which makes it all the more desirable for me. Maybe I'll take a ride to Bibb County.
