Japanese Pieris is a beautiful evergreen shrub. It does best in part shade in well drained soil in the south. It actually grows better further north and can struggle a bit here but when established can be a beautiful addition to the landscape. I love this plant because there is always interest. The panicles of small white flowers are great in the spring but after the flowers fade the panicles are still very appealing. The new foliage is often red or bronze which adds some nice color in the spring. 'Debuntatne' is a more compact variety where this plant can usually reach 6-10' tall.
Native to Japan, China, & Taiwan.
